In this branding project for the Local Government team, one of the key challenges was their desire to break away from traditional and ordinary colour schemes. They wanted a visual identity that stood out and resonated with the community while maintaining a sense of authority and approachability. To address this, I opted for a bold colour palette that not only captures attention but also conveys a sense of vibrancy and modernity. The chosen colours reflect the dynamic nature of the community and symbolise innovation, inclusivity, and progress. By combining these striking hues with thoughtful design elements, we created a visual identity that is both memorable and impactful. This branding approach not only enhances the Local Government team’s presence but also fosters a deeper connection with the audience, inviting them to engage with the team and its initiatives freshly and excitingly. The result is a unique and powerful brand that genuinely represents the spirit of the community it serves.

BRAND TONE

One of the key driving forces behind the brand is how we speak to our audiences. MC ARE LAWYERS, THEY LOVE WORDS.

But it’s how they use language that distances us from everybody else. They use wit, intelligence, and empathy, all with a minimal word count for maximum impact.

As public interest inspires the brand, they should, where appropriate, adopt the same style by speaking with a more direct tone.

Otakiri's art direction emphasises clear and genuine representation to cultivate trust and joy among consumers. Just as a strong building relies on a solid foundation, they aim to prioritise facts and authenticity to create a positive consumer experience. They plan to simplify their branding by using award medals on labels to distinguish their products in the Cos target market. Additionally, their upcoming social media campaign will embody a spacious and luxurious aesthetic. Their Strategy PET will enhance commercial outcomes while preserving the integrity of the "Glass (the shape of the bottle)" Strategy.

CHRISTMAS CARD DESIGN

AI-generated images have transformed the design landscape today, offering quick visual solutions but often requiring additional refinement. Last year, I created a Christmas card featuring an AI-generated image of the Hihi, the company nominated for Bird of the Year in New Zealand in 2024. While the initial output was interesting, I decided to improve it manually for a better aesthetic. I also chose Māori wording that translates to "enjoy your holiday" instead of "Merry Christmas" to respect religious diversity. This experience underscores that while AI can inspire, the human touch is essential for creating meaningful designs.
